Manufacturing and sourcing
To gain operational efficiencies and cost savings, Amer Sports is constantly reviewing both its make or buy strategy and the company’s global production and sourcing footprint. At the end of 2011, approximately 10% of Amer Sports’ production value is in the Americas, 30% in EMEA and 60% in Asia, with China representing approximately 30% of the total.
Amer Sports is very dynamically adjusting sourcing landscape and with growing importance of new countries like Vietnam and Cambodia, but also to low labor cost countries close to main markets.
Manufacturing
Amer Sports has 12 manufacturing sites. Amer Sports most important own production facilities are located in Austria, France, Finland, Canada, Bulgaria and the United States. Amer Sports ownes all manufacturing assets (tools, moulds, IT etc.) except building and labor force of another eight plants located in Eastern EU. 36 per cent of all products are manufactured in own factories or partially outsourced with growing importance of Eastern EU located plants.
Amer Sports purchases the raw materials it requires - steel, rubber, and oil-based raw materials and components - from a number of sources. These raw materials are used to manufacture plastic components for bindings and ski boots, carbon fibers for use in rackets, and the metal parts used in fitness equipment, binding components and ski edges.
