Wilson’s Vicky Botwright announces retirement from the game of squash
Text by Wilson
Botwright leaves with an exceptional record including a Gold Medal at the European Team Championships in 2005, 2007, 2008, the Grand Prix Squash Championships in 2005, Silver and Bronze Medals in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and a Gold Medal at the 2006 World Team Championships. She went out strong just last weekend, winning the BSPA finals in Ipswich.
Wilson and Botwright have been together for the past 7 years. “I feel that my relationship with Wilson started off as business and has ended in respect and friendship and I hope to watch the brand that has supported me for the last 7 years continue to grow” Botwright said. It was a relationship that not only helped Vicky to improve her game but it also helped Wilson promoting its squash equipment even better. “I am totally gutted to be leaving Wilson but this opportunity to work in such a position in my hometown has presented itself and sometimes you can’t time everything perfect.”
As Botwright leaves the personal competition of squash she will continue her love of the game as she takes over the position as Head Squash Coach in her hometown Manchester. Her main duties and responsibilities in this new role will be to grow participation in squash and racquetball from grassroots through to elite. Botwright will also be responsible for the mentoring of the coaches delivering these programs and to implement the long term athlete development program in Manchester.
Botwright’s loyalty to the game of squash and her determination on and off the court throughout the years has given Wilson an athlete to be proud of. Everyone at Wilson thanks Vicky for all that she has done for squash. We wish her all the best in future endeavors.
