European Championships are the flagship European Squash Federation event and attract players from 22 countries. Stoehr, a native of France, turned pro in 1996 and is currently ranked # 15 in the world. A few days before celebrating her 29th birthday, Stoehr won the final using the [K] Tour squash racket. “It was my first major title for quite a long time and I credit a big part of this success to my racket. My game is so much more powerful with the [K] Tour”, said Stoehr following her success on the court.
She dominated over Sarah Kippax from England and took the title in 4 games 5-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-4. The tournament was played on a full glass court in a bustling shopping mall in the Slovakian capital Bratislava. The unique atmosphere worked well for Stoehr, “I was feeling good; I loved playing on the glass court… It was nothing but pleasure.”
The awards ceremony proved to be a significant occasion as Stoehr soaked in her win. “Such moments are magical in a player’s life. Hearing the Marseillaise, that was thrilling”, Stoehr said after the award presentation.
