Atomic finishes Alpine Skiing World Cup with an overall title

The Racing Team of Atomic, a subsidiary of Amer Group, won three titles including one overall title in the Alpine Skiing World Cup. Lasse Kjus of Norway took his second overall title, while defending overall champion Hermann Maier of Austria placed third. Also, Kjus captured the title in Downhill and Maier in SuperG. Of the overall Top Ten male racers, six use Atomic equipment. Atomic scored by far more World Cup points than any of the other ski manufacturers.
A total of six Atomic athletes ranked in the Top Ten in the Alpine Skiing World Cup: Lasse Kjus (1st), Hermann Maier (3rd), Stephan Eberharter (4th), Hans Knauss (5th), Christian Mayer (7th) and Benjamin Raich (10th). Martina Ertl placed fourth in women's overall World Cup with a third-place finish in SuperG.
Hermann Maier took the title in SuperG and Lasse Kjus, the winner of the 1996 World Cup title, won the title in Downhill. In addition, Stephan Eberharter won silver in SuperG and in Giant Slalom, while Maier took bronze in Giant Slalom.
In the competition between ski manufacturers, Atomic ranked first (1,713 points) with Rossignol second (1,092 points) and Salomon third (964 points). All Atomic Racing Team members use Atomic skis and bindings. Lasse Kjus also wears Atomic ski boots.
The 1998-1999 season in the Alpine Skiing World Cup ended on 14 March with finals in Sierra Nevada, Spain.
