Wilson Golf launches the most technologically advanced Smart-Core golf ball line and new Fat Shaft Hyper Carbon .535 Irons. These new products were introduced in connection with the US PGA Championships in Chicago last night.
A Golf Ball so Smart That It Reacts to Your Game
Wilson Golf has had a relationship with Goodyear in developing golf balls for more than seven years, and has been working closely with the industry leader in elastomer technology to create high-energy soft cores. The new Smart-Core ball features a unique core composition that reacts firmer off the tee for longer distance, or reacts softer around the green for exceptional feel. Utilising a unique patent pending blend of titanium for maximum initial velocity and soft polymer urethane for soft feel, the Wilson Smart-Core golf balls produce revolutionary reactive Technology that reacts differently according to your swing. We are the first to use urethane in the core and the result is a line of Smart-Core performance balls that provide optimal distance for long shots, or incredibly soft feel on shorter shorts and around the green, said Luke Reese, Vice President & General Manager, Wilson Golf Worldwide.
Wilson Smart-Core Technology golf balls will be available at golf and pro shops in a family of four game improvement distance models: Straight Distance, Spin Distance, Professional Distance, and Women's Distance. In the US the new balls will be available from September, in Europe and Asia from October with the exception of Japan, where they will be available to consumers in January 2000.
Hyper Carbon Shafts and New Club Head Design Provide the Ultimate in Accuracy
Wilson Golf also introduced the new Hyper Carbon .535 Fat Shaft Irons. When we launched the original Fat Shaft Irons in 1996, it was truly revolutionary game improvement technology, said Jeff Harmet, Director of Marketing, Wilson Golf Worldwide. The new Hyper Carbon .535 Fat Shaft Irons have a new and innovative shaft, as well as an improved club head. Both of these refinements produce an even more accurate iron.
The breakthrough material Hyper Carbon - an ultra modulus space age carbon fibre exclusively manufactured for Wilson - is 28% stronger and 4% lighter versus ordinary graphite. Building on the success Wilson was able to enjoy throughout the introduction of Hyper Carbon in high-performance tennis rackets, Hyper Carbon is now being incorporated into Wilson golf clubs. Hyper Carbon provides for softer longitudinal flex and is 10% lighter than the original Fat Shafts. The tip diameter on the new Fat Shaft has been increased from .500 to .535, which produces even straighter and longer shots by increasing torsional stability by an additional 8% from the original Fat Shafts.
The club head has been redesigned with a more responsive face and a more uniform sweetspot. Realising most average golfers strike the ball more from the centre of the club head towards the toe of the club, Wilson shifted the centre of gravity in the head towards centre to toe by redistributing weight from the hosel and back heel to the low toe. In addition, the new Fat Shaft irons feature a deeper undercut back cavity and a lower back perimeter weighting, moving the centre of gravity back and producing a more responsive face. This new club head design, combined with the widest, most stable shaft in golf and Hyper Carbon technology, undoubtedly makes the new Wilson Fat Shaft irons the most accurate irons in the industry, said Frank Garrett, Director of Research and Development, Wilson Golf.
The new Wilson Hyper Carbon .535 Fat Shaft irons will be available at golf and pro shops worldwide from October/November.
