Impact on nature

We are inspired by the outdoors, and together with our iconic sports and outdoor brands, we encourage people to enjoy and connect with nature. Our brands were born in the mountains, fields, and courts, which we now share the responsibility of protecting and preserving.

We are increasingly aware that biodiversity loss and depleting water resources pose risks to all businesses. In 2023, we initiated our nature conservation efforts by conducting risk assessments for water and biodiversity using the WWF Water and Biodiversity Risk Filters, focusing on our own operations. The purpose of these initial water and biodiversity risk assessments was to identify our impacts and dependencies on ecosystem services, evaluating the associated material risks and opportunities. In 2024, we continued to monitor biodiversity and water risks within our operations and extended the scope of our assessments to include Tier 1 suppliers.

We acknowledge that the most significant nature impacts occur in the value chain of our products. Nature impacts are driven by raw material sourcing and pollution, including waste generation, at various stages of the value chain. Opportunities for mitigating impact and fostering sustainable business practices arise from efficient and circular material use and more environmentally friendly processing methods.

Water

In 2024, we significantly refined our water accounting, which led to a more accurate – and lower – reported volume of water consumption across our operations. Most water used in our facilities is returned to the source as discharge, and only an estimated 10% is consumed through domestic use or evaporation. Due to data limitations, water use in 82% of our locations – primarily shared office and retail spaces – is estimated based on employee count.

For the first time, we are disclosing water consumption in areas of potentially high water stress. In 2024, 13 of our own sites are located in such areas. Among our Tier 1 suppliers, 7% face high or very high water-related risks, including scarcity, drought, and pollution.

Biodiversity

Southeast Asia is a key region in our supply chain and one increasingly affected by extreme weather events. Nearly half of our Tier 1 suppliers face potentially high biodiversity-related risks, including tropical cyclones in coastal China and Taiwan, as well as threats like extreme heat and deforestation.

Similar risks are present in some of our own operations. Pollution and water use are key pressures throughout the entire value chain. We remain committed to reducing our impact on nature and enforcing our Material Compliance Policy, which helps ensure responsible production practices.

Waste management

We track waste streams from our own operations — including factories, warehouses, offices, and stores — and aim to recycle or reuse 70% of waste by 2030. In 2023, 67% of our total waste was directed to recycling. In 2024, that figure was 46%, reflecting broader data coverage and improved accuracy in our reporting.

Waste data is collected by type and handling method, primarily through invoices and third-party providers. Where actual data isn’t available, estimates based on site type and employee count are used. In 2024, 72% of the waste data was based on actual figures. All facilities select waste service providers in line with Amer Sports’ supplier requirements and local legislation.
