Atomic history

At Atomic, we belong to a cult that worships sliding on snow. Nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains in Austria, Atomic is known for building the most technologically advanced ski equipment on the planet.

The passion for the sport shared by our engineers and craftsmen isn't confined by that valley. The spirit of Atomic can be found on summits and slopes around the world, wherever people ski our products.

Implementation of the first ski including the Nano technology.

2004

Enlargement of the product portfolio of skis and snowboardhelmets.

Take-over of the luxure brand Volant. Integration of ski-boot production in Altenmarkt. The Koflach brand is retained.

2002

Closure of the branch in Koflach.

2001

Completion and launch of a new logistic center.

2000

Hermann Maier again on top - victory as he wins the world cup; Renewed success as Atomic is again victorious in the world cup;

1999

Most successful skis at the world championships in Vail and Ramsau; Atomic wins the world cup for alpine events.

1998

Concentration of entire field of skiing under the Atomic brand is completed with the presentation of a collection of Atomic bindings at the ISPO; This winter sees a sensational racing season - with the new superstar "Hermann Maier" out in front;

1997

Introduction of an Atomic ski boots collection on the occasion of the ISPO in Munich.

1996

Patenting of "beta technology for better performance". Further investment in production plant in Altenmarkt.

1995

Centralization of ski production at the Altenmarkt site and major investments for the installation of the latest production lines;

1994

Production of Dynamic skis moved to Altenmarkt; Take-over of Atomic Group by AMER GROUP LTD, Helsinki - founding of Atomic Austria GmbH.

1993

Production and distribution of inline skates under the "Oxygen by Koflach" brand; renamed ATOMIC FOR SPORT GMBH.

1992

Start of Oxygen snowboard production and development of Oxygen snowboard boots.

1991

Introduction of the "Fat Boy" ski for use in deep snow; production and distribution of ultra wheels inline skates by Koflach.

1989

With the takeover of the renowned sports shoe manufacturer Koflach, Atomic becomes the first full-range supplier in the field of alpine winter sports; Skis, boots, bindings and poles developed and manufactured on our own production site.

1988

Take-over of the German ski bindings brand, ESS; Organisation and start of binding production in Altenmarkt; Atomic sells products of the Japanese sports gear firm ASICS on the Austrian market.

1987

Founding of Atomic Canada; Start of production of cross-country skis at the Altenmarkt site.

1985

Expansion of the site in Wagrain.

1984

Founding of Atomic Schweiz.


1983

Expansion of the Altenmarkt site.

1982

Start of ski and pole production at the Altenmarkt site.

1977

Expansion of the Altenmarkt site; take-over of 80% of French Ski brand, Dynamic.

1976

Germany and the USA.

1972

Founding of Atomic sales subsidiaries in France.

1971

Opening of the site in Altenmarkt.

1968

Atomic enters racing. Olga Pall wins gold at the Olympic Games in Grenoble. The only gold medal for Austria at these Games.

1966

Start of industrial production.

1957

Atomic is officially registered as a trademark. In the years that follow, as well as products typically made at a coachbuilder's, 2,000 pairs of skis are manufactured annually.

1955

Founding: Alois Rohrmoser starts the production of laminated wooden skis with just four employees at his coachbuilder's workshop in Wagrain, Salzburg.
