Julian Jackson joined Amer Sports in September 2024, making the leap from the world of consulting to an in-house role. He is currently working as Senior Manager, SEC Reporting based in our New York office. We sat down with him to talk about what drew him in-house, what surprised him most after joining, and why the best growth opportunities often come from outside of your formal job description.
You started your career at a Big Four consulting firm. What made you consider moving to an in-house role?
Starting out in consulting was a great foundation for my career. I gained exposure to a variety of businesses, developed strong technical skills, and worked on complex challenges. But over time, moving in-house started to appeal to me because it offered the opportunity to contribute to a shared vision, gain a deeper understanding of the business and industry, and broaden my skill set.
When you decided to make the move, what made the opportunity at Amer Sports stand out from the rest?
Amer Sports stood out because of its portfolio of iconic brands, strong growth trajectory, and global scale. The opportunity to be part of a growing team in the heart of New York City made it an exciting next step.
You’ve now been here for a while. What surprised you the most after joining?
The pace of learning — it really exceeded my expectations. Every project has brought new challenges and new perspectives, which has accelerated my professional development. But most of all, it’s been the people. The energy, the collaboration, and the support from colleagues make Amer Sports a truly special place to work.
You were recently promoted — congratulations! What advice would you give to other professionals looking to grow in an in-house role?
Bring a positive, can-do attitude and look for ways to support the people around you. Take ownership, seek opportunities beyond your immediate responsibilities, and be willing to step outside your comfort zone. Many of the best growth opportunities come from challenges outside your job description.
