Four decades ago, a chairlift conversation in Åre, Sweden, sparked an idea that would become Peak Performance. This year, the brand celebrates its 40th anniversary, honoring the bold thinking, progressive design, Swedish heritage, and a love for the mountains that continue to shape the brand.
It all started in 1986, when two skiers in the Swedish mountain town of Åre shared a simple frustration: no one was making the ski clothing they wanted to wear. Stefan Engström, a Swedish World Cup-winning mogul skier, and Peter Blom, editor-in-chief of Sweden’s biggest ski magazine, saw room for something different. Their vision was to combine technical ski wear built to withstand Åre’s unpredictable mountain conditions with clean, distinctive design. From that vision, Peak Performance was born.
Peak Performance anniversary collection: icons reimagined for the next generation
To mark its 40th anniversary, Peak Performance is looking to its past as inspiration for the future. The new Peak Performance 40th Anniversary Collection was launched at the end of October and revisits some of the brand’s collection icons, bringing familiar designs together with the latest technical innovations. The collection includes pieces such as the R&D Long GORE-TEX Jacket, Helium Down Jacket, and Frost Reversible Down Jacket. Inspired by four decades of innovation, the collection celebrates Peak Performance’s founding spirit, progressive design, Swedish craftsmanship, and connection to the mountains, while being created for the next generation of skiers and adventurers.
